The European Commission provides three free icons for labelling AI-generated content: “AI”, “AI GENERATED” and “AI MODIFIED”, each in black and white. Download them unchanged here, plus text labels with “AI” and “AI-generated” or “AI-modified” in all 24 official EU languages.
Which icon when
| Icon | Use according to the Commission |
|---|---|
| When AI was involved in a deep fake, and when a custom text or a second layer is added. The usual choice for non-English stores: “AI” plus text in the local language. | |
| AI GENERATED | When the entire content was generated by AI, with no human-created elements (apart from prompting). |
| AI MODIFIED | When human-made content was partially modified with AI, for example a real photo of an empty apartment furnished with AI. |
Terms of use
“These icons are made publicly available for everyone to use freely, without the need for attribution to the Commission or the AI Office.”
European Commission, EU icons for labelling AI-generated content, as of 24 September 2026
Using them is optional; labelling is not. Using the icons without having signed the Code of Practice does not signal participation in the Code, and the icons are not a seal. Do not alter the icons; for other colours, design an equivalent label of your own following the Code. More in our guide to the EU AI icons.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I get the official EU AI icon?
From the Commission's page “EU icons for labelling AI-generated content” as a ZIP, or here individually as SVG and PNG. The files here are unchanged.
Do I have to use the EU icons?
No. The icons are optional. An equivalent label of your own is possible if it meets the Code of Practice: “AI” as the main element, clearly visible, distinguishable.
Is there a version in my language?
The EU icons carry the English “AI”. Stores in other languages combine the basic icon with a text such as “KI-generiert” or “Généré par IA”. These templates are available here in 24 languages.
May I change the icons' colour?
The Commission offers black and white plus semi-transparent variants. We recommend not altering the icons and designing an equivalent label of your own for other colours.
